Skype Hype

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/11078979/site/newsweek/

May be I’m just underestimating the power of Skype. but i dont see much of a utility. Its just like any other chat software with voice capabilities. but unless the other person is online what good is the phone you have.

If all you are expecting is you keep your skype messenger logged in all the time, so can you with the Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger.

Or may be I’m just dumb!

well, i just have one word.. or rather two words, .. “skype rocks”. :)

I use all three IM clients(yahoo, gtalk & skype), but when it comes to voice, skype is a clear leader. The call quality is unmatchable. GTalk comes a close second, but yahoo is… horribly bad.

Other reason why I use skype is to make phone calls and receive phone calls!!!! (SkypeOut and SkypeIn) - These are not free services, but are much cheaper!

I have a SkypeIn number to which people from all over the world (from an normal phone)! And I can calll anyone on this planet with skype out! (except 911 :D) . Outgoing call charges are based on destination. For US its around 2.1 cents per minute (both local long distance). For India, its around 15 to 17 cents per minute.

Oh ya… the best part of skypeIn is, I can receive calls at the number irrespective of my location! i.e., I can be back in India and receive calls at my US skype number! :)

BTW, the latest version of skype also supports video!

    Hope this info helps!
Do give it a try sometime!
